Basketball Recap: Westhope/Newburg Takes a Loss

Westhope/Newburg lost against Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Westhope/Newburg Sioux took a 43-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood Mavericks. While losing is never fun, the Sioux can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Mavericks are ranked 33rd).

Despite the defeat, Westhope/Newburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Macy Bryans posted 14 points along with eight boards and six assists. Bryans has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashley Tabarez, who earned eight points.

Westhope/Newburg has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Westhope/Newburg nor Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood have any future games scheduled.
