Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for John Carroll

John Carroll entered their tilt with Mercy on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Magic 11-5. That's more bragging rights for the Patriots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Savannah Claycomb made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Kallissa Coats and Billi Heinz did most of the damage at the plate: Coats went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Heinz scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Coats is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Juli Aragon also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

John Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.

John Carroll's record now sits at 5-1. As for Mercy, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, John Carroll will head out on the road to face off against Patterson Mill at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Patterson Mill's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so John Carroll's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mercy, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Mount de Sales Academy at 4:00 p.m. Mount de Sales Academy will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Mercy surely won't give up without a fight.
