Softball Recap: St. Catherine's Picks Up 12th Consecutive Win

St. Catherine had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Saint Gertrude Gators as they made off with a 10-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-2 back in March.

Keira Frazier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single hit in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Kinnady Branch was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Izzy Viruet, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

St. Catherine's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saint Gertrude only posted a batting average of .053.

St. Catherine's pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Saint Gertrude, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Catherine's will challenge Collegiate at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.8 runs per game on average), something the Saints will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Saint Gertrude, they will square off against Christchurch School at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
