Basketball Recap: Berean Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Matthew Wall and Alyk Smith

If Berean Christian was feeling good fresh off their 68-10 takedown of Village Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Berean Christian Bulldogs took a 56-37 bruising from the Morningside Academy Eagles on Thursday. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in January of 2023.

Alyk Smith and Matthew Wall certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Smith posted 12 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Wall put up 15 points and five rebounds. Smith has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played.

Morningside Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Stephen Moss led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Moss a new career-high in steals (five). AJ Chang was another key player, dropping a triple-double on 11 points, 13 boards, and ten assists.

Berean Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Morningside Academy, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Berean Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-46 loss against FAU High on the 13th. As for Morningside Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-45 victory against Greenacres Christian on the 10th.
