Basketball Recap: Palm Bay Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Palm Bay extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 4-0. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lake Howell Silverhawks 62-59. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Palm Bay's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christopher 'CJ' Lloyd, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Lloyd now owns an excellent 47.1% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Omar Clarke, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Palm Bay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

As for Lake Howell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (55), they still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Lake Howell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Johnas Maurice shot 69% from the field en route to 28 points. Those 69% field goal percentage set a new season-high mark for Maurice. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Buckley, who posted 13 points and four steals.

Palm Bay wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-50 victory against South Fork on the 29th. As for Lake Howell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-46 win against Rockledge on the 29th.
