Basketball Recap: Southern Valley Takes a Loss

Southern Valley lost against Bertrand on January 9th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Southern Valley Eagles took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bertrand Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Vikings are ranked 115th).

It was another big night for Marcus Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards for Bertrand. The match was Hernandez's third in a row with at least ten points. Kayden Hatfield was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Southern Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Bertrand, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Valley will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alma at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alma has three straight victories, Southern Valley has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court. Bertrand also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Medicine Valley at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th.
