Recap: Wakefield Bombers vs. Pike Valley Panthers
This season hasn't been kind to the Wakefield Bombers, who are still winless after their fourth contest. They were the victim of a tough 49-25 defeat at the hands of Pike Valley on Saturday. Wakefield found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post eight fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Wakefield had strong showings from Eli Ponton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, and Daxton Summerson, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Uken, who scored three points.
Even though they lost, Wakefield were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Andrew Cooper, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and four steals for Pike Valley. The matchup was Cooper's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Braxton Patterson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Wakefield bumped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pike Valley, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wakefield is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Southern Cloud co-op [Miltonvale/Glasco] at 4:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Southern Cloud co-op [Miltonvale/Glasco] focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Friday. As for Pike Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Axtell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Axtell presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pike Valley in Kansas (Axtell is ranked 62nd, while Pike Valley is ranked 203rd).
