Basketball Game Preview: Weeping Water Indians vs. Sterling Jets

The Weeping Water Indians will venture away from home to take on the Sterling Jets at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Weeping Water turned things around against Brownell Talbot on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-48 victory over the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since December 21, 2023.

Weeping Water's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gus McGill, who went 8 for 11 en route to 19 points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, McGill is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerderick Brito-Diaz, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Sterling hadn't done well against Lourdes Central Catholic recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Sterling managed a 52-48 win over Lourdes Central Catholic. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Jets as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Sterling's win came from a few key players Weeping Water will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brody Horstman, who scored 19 points and five rebounds. That's the most points he has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Colin Wambold, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards.

Sterling's win bumped their record up to 3-11. As for Weeping Water, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.

Everything went Weeping Water's way against Sterling in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Weeping Water made off with a 52-28 win. In that contest, Weeping Water amassed a halftime lead of 35-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
