Baseball Recap: Lincoln Takes Down Burton in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lincoln walked away with it. They never let the Burton Pumas get on the board and left with a 9-0 win on Monday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Wyatt Toloski and Mason Wong made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Toloski tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wong didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Toloski also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lincoln is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 11-14 otherwise. At bat, Toloski went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Wong went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Toloski a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nicholas Chiu was incredible, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Lincoln is undefeated when Chiu posts two or more stolen bases, but 10-15 otherwise. Dexter Palmer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Lincoln moved to 14-15 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Burton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-8.

Coming up, Lincoln will take on Washington at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.11 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. Burton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
