Basketball Recap: Marshall Comes Up Short

Marshall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by the Lufkin Panthers 54-24. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mavericks of the 32-20 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Marshall saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ayzia Nelson posted five points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Nelson.

Marshall's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Lufkin, they moved to 12-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Marshall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-18 loss against Whitehouse on the 7th. As for Lufkin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-36 defeat against Jacksonville on the 7th.
