Softball Recap: Bradley Central Comes Up Short

Bradley Central had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 14-14 to make it five. They fell just short of the Whitwell Tigers by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.

Alli Wilson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Bradley Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tori Cagle, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Lexi Patterson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Whitwell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-13. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.

On Whitwell's side, Bayli Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. Brown has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lindsay Gonzalez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Bradley Central will square off against Cleveland at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Whitwell, they will take on Marion County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
