Basketball Recap: Concordia Lutheran Comes Up Short

Concordia Lutheran was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against the Mayde Creek Rams, falling 96-42. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1034th, while the Rams are ranked 303rd).

Concordia Lutheran lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Semico Brown, who posted five points. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Loukas Naum, who earned six points.

It was another big night for Christian Gibson, who dropped a double-double on 42 points and ten rebounds for Mayde Creek. Gibson's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamal Chretien II, who went 9 of 16 on his way to 24 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Concordia Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Mayde Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Concordia Lutheran didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-41 loss against Westbury Christian on the 28th. Mayde Creek has also already played their next contest, a 74-63 defeat against Iowa Colony on the 27th.
