Baseball Recap: Lucas' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Lucas lost to Central Christian on Monday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Cubs came out on top against the Comets by a score of 7-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cubs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jack DiBartolomeo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. Lucas is undefeated when DiBartolomeo allows two or fewer hits, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Will Whitesel, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Lucas' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Rayden Caudill was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lucas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Lucas now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Central Christian, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-5.

Coming up, Lucas will face off against Colonel Crawford at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Central Christian, they will challenge Mansfield Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
