The Sunnyside Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Rio Rico Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunnyside will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Sunnyside's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Rincon/University. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
EMRICK THOMPSON was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Sunnyside let JORDAN MAYBOCA and JORGE RUIZ run wild. MAYBOCA got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while RUIZ went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave RUIZ a new career-high. Another player making a difference was MICHEL MUNIZ, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rincon/University only posted an OBP of .059.
Meanwhile, Rio Rico started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Cholla. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers on Thursday.
Rio Rico saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rafael Echeverria, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Sunnyside's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Rio Rico, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.
Everything went Sunnyside's way against Rio Rico in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Sunnyside made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
