AISA AAA Region 1 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Tuscaloosa Academy extended the longest winning streak in AISA AAA Region 1 this week by beating Glenwood, 44-23. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Knights.
The Gators made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,106 from 7,439. The improvement came about via a 44-23 victory over Glenwood last week.
Kingwood Christian's Gavin Sumrall and Montex Haynes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sumrall has thrown for 456 yards this season, while Haynes, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 11 catches for 255 yards. Holt Ingalls from Lee-Scott Academy leads the league in rushing with 253 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Macon-East Montgomery Academy takes on the Warriors. The Knights are in third place, while Lee-Scott Academy is in second place.
