Softball Game Preview: Pinconning Spartans vs. Clare Pioneers

The Pinconning Spartans will square off against the Clare Pioneers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Pinconning: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Clare has snatched up 18 consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.

On Wednesday, Pinconning came up short against Alpena and fell 12-7.

Pinconning saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Hunter, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Hunter's first of the season. Another was Elley Shoultes, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Clare never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Bullock Creek with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Clare's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Pinconning, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Pinconning skirted past Clare 5-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
