Softball Game Preview: South Florence Bruins vs. Lower Richland Diamond Hornets

The South Florence Bruins are taking a road trip to take on the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Florence has six straight wins, Lower Richland has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

South Florence's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Wilson with a sharp 11-0 victory. Considering the Bruins have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

South Florence let Ryleigh Hux and Ava Black run wild. Hux scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Black went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Owens, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

South Florence hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Lower Richland's offense. They lost 19-0 to Lakewood on Wednesday.

Lower Richland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for South Florence, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.

South Florence took their victory against Lower Richland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0. Does South Florence have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lower Richland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
