Softball Recap: Cleveland Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Cleveland can now relate to. They fell just short of the West End Patriots by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, with their most recent loss being a 6-3 defeat on Monday.

Patelyn Battles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Makenna Hayes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Cleveland and nudges their season record down to 16-26. As for West End, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 21-10.

Cleveland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West End, they will take on Falkville at 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
