Hamilton hasn't had much luck against Venice recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Yankees are taking a road trip to face off against the Gondoliers at 3:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Hamilton's win against Westchester wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yankees narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Comets 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Yankees have posted since March 24th.
Hamilton secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Abby Lawton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Venice). They blew past Los Angeles CES 26-0 on Monday. The Gondoliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
Monserrath Zapata made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sandy Carrera, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Jaelyn Jacobo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Venice was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .725. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Venice's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Hamilton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season.
Hamilton came up short against Venice in their previous meeting back in April, falling 5-1. Can the Yankees avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
