Baseball Game Preview: Sotomayor WILDCATS vs. O'Connor Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the WILDCATS take on the Panthers at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Sotomayor saw some tournament action on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over MacArthur.

Jude Patino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Isaac Staten was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Jace Cano was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask O'Connor). Everything went their way against Judson on Friday as O'Connor made off with a 13-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their two-run performance the game before.

The team relied heavily on James O'Connor, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those home runs marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Contreras, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run.

O'Connor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for O'Connor and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Sotomayor, their win bumped their record up to 4-2-1.
