Basketball Game Preview: Miller Buccaneers vs. Ray Texans

Miller and Ray are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Buccaneers will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Texans at 6:15 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Miller and 38 for Ray dating back to last season.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 60-27, which was the final score in Miller's tilt against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 821st, while the Eagles are ranked 336th).

Defeat or not, Miller got some senior leadership from Hailey Martinez and Amorette Gallegos. Martinez posted seven points and five steals, while Gallegos scored six points and five rebounds. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 14 games she's played.

Meanwhile, Ray took a blow against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on Tuesday, falling 86-25.

Ray's loss dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Miller, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.

Everything came up roses for Miller against Ray when the teams last played back in December of 2025, as the squad secured a 58-23 victory. Will the Buccaneers repeat their success, or do the Texans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
