North Central III league recap: 5/21/12

Point Arena's Justin Sundstrom was the best pitcher in the league this week. He won three games and struck out 29 batters.

On Tuesday, the top two teams in the current league standings will go head to head, as the Pirates and Potter Valley meet. Point Arena currently holds a two-game lead over the Bearcats for first place.

Mendocino's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 13 hits and seven walks to lead the league in both categories. The Cardinals have given up a mere 50 hits on the year, while striking out 71 opposing hitters. Alex Stenback is the leader in that category with 33 Ks on the season.

The Pirates finished with the most hits in the league this week, adding 58 for a league-leading total of 186. Point Arena, which sits in first place, is led by Sundstrom, who has accumulated 34 hits this season.

The Pirates closer Jasper Hillier recorded two saves this week, most in the league. His three saves this year put him in first place in the league in that category.
