Baseball Recap: Evangelical Christian's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

It's playoff time, and Evangelical Christian had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Southwest Florida Christian King on Tuesday. 11 seems to be a good number for the Sentinels as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Harrison Martin tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Evangelical Christian's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 10-13 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Anthony Cabrera was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Slater Smith, who went 4-for-5 with one home run and two runs.

Evangelical Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwest Florida Christian only posted an OBP of .345.

Evangelical Christian's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-14. As for Southwest Florida Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Evangelical Christian will square off against Canterbury at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Sentinels surely won't give up without a fight. Southwest Florida Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
