Baseball Recap: Danville Vikings vs. Normal West Wildcats

Danville extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-19 in the process. They came up short against the Normal West Wildcats, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 last Friday.

As for Normal West, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Normal West's part, Sam McCully made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). McCully was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Torin DeLaere was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Gage Flairty, who earned three runs and two stolen bases.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Danville is set to challenge their familiar foe Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Normal West will take on rival Peoria Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
