Canajoharie and Fort Plain are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Hilltoppers on Monday. Canajoharie will be strutting in after a win while Fort Plain will be coming in after a defeat.

While Cougars fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Monday's season opener. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over Schoharie on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Storm: they've now won four in a row.

Nicholas Barlow and Quin Collins were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Barlow pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Collins didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. At bat, Barlow scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Collins went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cody Hyney and Aiden Bowerman did most of the damage at the plate: Hyney scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3, while Bowerman scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Fort Plain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Duanesburg. That's two games in a row now that the Hilltoppers have lost by exactly two runs.

Canajoharie beat Fort Plain 5-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
