Basketball Recap: Monroe Takes Down East Burke in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Monroe had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the East Burke Cavaliers by a score of 54-46.

It was another big night for Bryson Simpkins, who en route to 21 points and seven rebounds. He has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Shearin, who posted nine points.

Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Barger Shook, who earned nine points along with six boards and three blocks. Jay Dixon was another key player, putting up eight points.

Monroe is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points over those games. East Burke's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-15.

Coming up, Monroe will square off against Hendersonville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hendersonville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matches -- so hopefully Monroe likes a good challenge. East Burke does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
