Softball Recap: Robinson Maroons vs. Charleston Trojans
Robinson lost against Charleston back in April of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Robinson Maroons took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Charleston Trojans. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Robinson in their matchups with Charleston: they've now lost five in a row.
Robinson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katie Winterrowd, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
On Charleston's side, Aubrey Cross made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Cross has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Cross was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Railyn Cox was incredible, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Avery Beals was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4.
Robinson's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9. As for Charleston, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.
Robinson will be playing in front of their home fans against Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Newton has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Charleston, they will head out on the road to square off against Effingham at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Charleston is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
