Softball Recap: Clay Panthers vs. North Adams Green Devils
After flying high against Whiteoak last Saturday, Clay came back down to earth. The Panthers fell just short of the North Adams Green Devils by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Green Devils from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Laney Shepherd put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Shepherd wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Elin Shaw, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Shaw has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Clay dropped their record down to 6-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for North Adams, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-6.
Coming up, Clay will be playing at home against South Gallia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.83 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for North Adams, they will head out to face off against Peebles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
