Football Recap: Gulf Breeze Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Gulf Breeze extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They took a blow against the Niceville Eagles, falling 56-6. While losing is never fun, the Dolphins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Eagles are ranked 97th).

Beckett Smith threw for 85 yards and one touchdown. Kai Kael was his top target, picking up 56 receiving yards and one score. On the ground, Tyler Lynch rushed for 28 yards.

As for Niceville, the win got them back to even at 3-3. That looming 56-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Niceville was led to victory by Jakobe Gilyard and Deagan McCoy. Gilyard gained 104 total yards and three touchdowns, while McCoy threw for 179 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes. McCoy has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Robert Oliver did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 105 receiving yards.

Coming up, Gulf Breeze is taking a road trip to challenge West Florida at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Niceville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Godby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
