Football Game Preview: Troup Tigers vs. Newton Eagles + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in Brett Wells and Kendray Porter are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Troup Tigers will take on the Newton Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Troup sitting on 12 straight wins and Newton on 11.

Troup is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Hooks, posting a 49-19 victory. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Hornets are ranked 403rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Josh Childress produced another solid effort throwing for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

Troup was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 294 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 172 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, while Newton put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for De Kalb. The Eagles blew past the Bears 68-0. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by 20 points or more this season.

Newton's win came from a few key players Troup will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dayland Alfred, who rushed for 61 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Zarriun Kenebrew, who rushed for 80 yards and one score.

Troup's record is now 12-0. As for Newton, their record now sits at 11-1.

Troup took a serious blow against Newton in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, falling 48-14. Thankfully for the Tigers, Deanthony Gatson (who rushed for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
