Baseball Recap: Shelby County Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Shelby County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the McMinn County Cherokees 8-7.

Cale Blevins was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Byrne Nate was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Shelby County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Shelby County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. McMinn County's loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Coincidentally, Shelby County and McMinn County will both be playing Boyd-Buchanan the next time they take the field. Shelby County will host Boyd-Buchanan at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, while McMinn County will play them later in the day, at 2:30 p.m.
