Basketball Recap: Elayzia Dawson Key Part of Team Effort in Wolfpack Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against East Bladen, Whiteville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They strolled past the South Columbus Stallions with points to spare, taking the game 48-32. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 49-23 back in January.

Whiteville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elayzia Dawson, who went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points along with six assists and five steals. That's the most steals Dawson has posted since back in January of 2024. Ceonna Dennis was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Dawson wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Whiteville was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Whiteville's record now sits at 9-13. As for South Columbus, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Looking ahead, Whiteville will face off against Pender at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Columbus, they will square off against Heide Trask at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
