Basketball Recap: Calvert Find Success

Calvert's game on Monday was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 40-39 victory over the La Plata Warriors. The Cavaliers didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.

Leading Calvert to victory were Amani Welch and Brooke Kidwell. Welch dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards, while Kidwell dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 rebounds. Kidwell is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last eight games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Epidendio, who posted five points and seven rebounds.

Calvert was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, La Plata saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aniyah Sisco had 28 points along with seven boards and three blocks. That was a full 71.8% of La Plata's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Calvert's record now sits at 4-7. As for La Plata, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Calvert has already played their next contest (against North Point), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. La Plata has already played their next game, a 64-22 defeat against Leonardtown on the 15th.
