Hurricane and Lincoln County are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. Hurricane will host Lincoln County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hurricane's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Capital 15-0. The win continues a trend for the Redskins in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.
Sophie Dunlap looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Jaden Jones was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kylie Bailey, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Hurricane always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lincoln County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Wayne on Saturday as Lincoln County made off with a 9-2 victory.
Arien Cooper made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those home runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Camdyn Mckinney was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keirstin Ross, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Lincoln County's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hurricane, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both Hurricane and Lincoln County just can't seem to miss. Hurricane has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Lincoln County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hurricane couldn't quite finish off Lincoln County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Will Hurricane have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
