Football Recap: Huffman Comes Up Short

Huffman had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it nine. They took a blow against the Oxford Yellow Jackets, falling 55-6. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 34th).

As for Oxford, they now have a winning record of 5-4. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Jay'Lin Taylor continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, picking up 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He is becoming a predictor of Oxford's success: when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Jenkins, who threw for 98 yards and three TDs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Huffman will welcome Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.78 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Oxford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Florence at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
