Baseball Game Preview: San Benito Greyhounds vs. Weslaco Panthers

San Benito is 2-8 against Weslaco since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The San Benito Greyhounds will host the Weslaco Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

San Benito is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Edinburg North with a sharp 13-3 victory on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Greyhounds needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Gabriel Covarrubias was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Ethan Garza was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

San Benito was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edinburg North only posted a batting average of .150.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Weslaco, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Sharyland on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Weslaco pushed their record up to 10-4-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for San Benito, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
