Football Recap: Irvin Takes a Loss

After soaring to 45 points the game before, Irvin was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Riverside Rangers and fell 48-13. The defeat continues a trend for the Rockets in their meetings with the Rangers: they've now lost four in a row.

Irvin's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dallas Medina, who rushed for 34 yards and one touchdown, and Michael Salazar, who picked up 120 receiving yards. Salazar was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 54 yards.

Even if they lost, Irvin's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Alex Cardenas and Angel Valenzuela, who racked up all four sacks between them. Cardenas is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Carlos Rojas III had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 214 yards and three scores on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 134 yards and three TDs for Riverside. What's more, Rojas III racked up 97.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Derek Armendariz helped out on the ground, rushing for 107 yards.

Irvin's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Riverside, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Coincidentally, Irvin and Riverside will both be playing Bowie the next time they take the field. The Rockets will host the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Rangers will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on October 2.
