Baseball Recap: Round Valley Sets Scoring Season-High Against Pinon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Round Valley). Everything went their way against the Pinon Eagles on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Elks in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.

Lane Hill and Brenton Walker were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hill tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Walker tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Hill went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Walker scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those four RBI gave Hill a new career-high.

In other batting news, Round Valley let JJ Logan and Jeffery Cochran run wild. Logan scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Cochran scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Logan has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times he's played. Eli Pena was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Round Valley pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Pinon, they moved to 4-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Round Valley will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Blue Ridge at 2:00 p.m. The Elks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellow Jackets have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Pinon, they are taking a road trip to take on St. Johns at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
