Mahanoy Area extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They lost 14-6 to Marian Catholic. The Golden Bears were not able to make up for their loss to Marian Catholic from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Naomi Kowalick made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Brode, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Marian Catholic, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.
On Marian Catholic's side, Emily Upanavage made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Upanavage was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Malina Letcher and Hailey Treskolasky did most of the damage at the plate: Letcher went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Treskolasky went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Danica Karlick was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Mahanoy Area wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 28-12 victory against Our Lady of Lourdes Regional on the 29th. As for Marian Catholic, they have also already played their next game, a 7-5 defeat against Schuylkill Haven on the 1st.
