Baseball Recap: Great Bridge's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Great Bridge waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Hickory Hawks. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.

Cole Cinnamomd made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Brody Comparto was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jaxen Whitehurst, who scored a run and stole three bases.

Great Bridge's record is now 6-1. As for Hickory, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.

Great Bridge will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Nansemond River at 5:45 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Hickory, they will face off against Grassfield at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
