Baseball Recap: Elverado Comes Up Short

Elverado extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 21 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-15. They lost 16-1 to the Gallatin County Hawks. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

As for Gallatin County, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

For Gallatin County's part, Casen Steele made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Steele has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Goebel, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trace Patton, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elverado will square off against Zeigler-Royalton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Gallatin County, they will head out to face off against Frankfort at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
