Football Recap: Smyer Comes Up Short

Smyer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. The matchup between the Bobcats and the Plains Cowboys didn't end well, with the Bobcats falling 20-6. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Cowboys from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Skyler Pond threw for 78 yards on five of 20 attempts. Ryann Gutierrez was his top target, picking up 35 receiving yards.

Braylon Ward was a one-man wrecking crew For Plains. as he rushed for 199 yards while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. What's more, Ward racked up 22 receiving yards, the most he's had since back in September of 2024.

Smyer's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Plains, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 3-6 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Smyer is set to challenge their familiar foe Tahoka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Plains will take on rival Ropes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
