Softball Recap: Mascoutah Beats Civic Memorial for Their Third Straight Win

Mascoutah proved they can win big on Monday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Civic Memorial Eagles, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since April 11th.

Faith Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Callie Kunz, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Avery Boehm was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mascoutah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win (which was Mascoutah's third in a row) raised their record to 11-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Civic Memorial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.

Looking ahead, Mascoutah is taking a road trip to square off against Waterloo at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Civic Memorial, they will be playing at home against Breese Central at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
