Soccer Game Preview: New Hanover vs. Hoggard

New Hanover is 0-10 against Hoggard since May of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Wildcats will host the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, New Hanover turned things around against West Brunswick on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Trojans 2-1. The game was the first time New Hanover have beaten West Brunswick on their pitch since March 31, 2021.

Finley Nicholson and Gracie Calderon scored both of New Hanover's goals, bringing their combined season tally to five goals.

Meanwhile, Hoggard entered their tilt with Topsail on Monday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They walked away with a 4-2 victory over the Pirates. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Hoggard's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Topsail are ranked 46th).

Hoggard's win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 70 goals over those 12 games. As for New Hanover, their win bumped their record up to 3-13-1.
