Baseball Recap: Skyline Wins Going Away Against Meridian

Skyline hadn't done well against Meridian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Mustangs. The Hawks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 11-2).

Cameron Kerns was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Skyline: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 3-6 otherwise. Kerns was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaleb Matthews, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was McKinley Tolliver, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.

Skyline has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Meridian, they moved to 5-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyline will face off against Manassas Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.4 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Meridian, they are taking a road trip to take on Warren County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
