Jones never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Chicago Academy on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Eagles have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Anna Black made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Black was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jones got a massive performance out of Jamilette Hernandez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Julissa Galvez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Jones always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chicago Academy only posted an OBP of .333.
This is the second loss in a row for Proviso East and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Jones, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Proviso East has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Jones struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
