Baseball Recap: Pomeroy Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pomeroy entered their tilt with Touchet on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Redhawks. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jett Slusser and Nolan Newberg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Slusser pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Newberg pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Slusser also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pomeroy is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise. At the plate, Slusser went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, while Newberg went 1-for-4 with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave Newberg a new career-high.

In other batting news, Pomeroy let Conrad Nelson and Cesar Morphin run wild. Nelson went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Morphin got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Nelson has become a key player for Pomeroy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jacob Reisinger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Pomeroy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Touchet, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, Pomeroy and Touchet will both be playing Waitsburg/Prescott the next time they take the field. The Pirates will host the Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Redhawks will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on May 15.
