Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Peru's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Peru walked away with it. They walked away with a 43-36 victory over the West Lafayette Red Devils on Friday. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 68-46 loss the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Peru to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacey Boswell, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Sydney Azbell, who earned eight points and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why West Lafayette lost, don't look at Bree Johnson. Despite the final result, she had eight points and ten boards. Molly Andrew was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Peru has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to offensive rebounds: they averaged an imposing 12.09 offensive boards in those games compared to only 12.09 in the others. As for West Lafayette, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Peru didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-50 defeat against Maconaquah on the 8th. After both having extra time off, West Lafayette and Lafayette Central Catholic will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on November 4th.
