Baseball Recap: Bremen Drops Highest Score of Season Against Thornton Fractional North

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bremen). Everything went their way against the Thornton Fractional North Meteors on Monday as they made off with a 22-1 win. Surprisingly, this marked the seventh straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Ashton Cardinal made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bremen is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Cardinal was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Jose Hernandez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Bremen: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Niko Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Bremen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 13.

Bremen's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Thornton Fractional North, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bremen will square off against Longwood at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Thornton Fractional North, they will take on Blue Island Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
