Basketball Game Preview: Plantation Colonels vs. Cypress Bay Lightning

The Plantation Colonels will square off against the Cypress Bay Lightning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Plantation's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Last Thursday, Plantation earned a 72-60 win over Stoneman Douglas.

Plantation's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jabari Washington led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. Washington's evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Exis, who posted 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Plantation smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Cypress Bay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-51 heartbreaker at the hands of Western. While losing is never fun, the Lightning can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 25th).

Plantation has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points per game. As for Cypress Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
